Millfield School

Junior School Overview

On Wednesday’s students have a full-day excursion and on Saturdays they have English Language Tuition in the mornings and a half-day excursion in the afternoon.

Most Sundays are arrival and departure days; students who are not arriving or departing on those days can take part in extra academic clubs or friendly games/activities and occasionally have the option to take part in an extra trip.

Both campuses have modern accommodation with separate houses for boys and girls, the majority of which are located on campus. Staff are accommodated in the same houses, with each house allocated a Houseparent and Assistant who are responsible for the running of the house and the health and welfare of the students living there.

Wi-Fi is available for students on campus within the hours of 06.00 and 22.30 each day and each house has payphones which can receive incoming calls. Please check the individual house pages for more information on each house and to access the contact numbers during the courses.

Activities & Excursions:

Students enjoy one full day and one-half day excursion every week. A careful balance of active, historical, fun and educational excursions is provided. Students are accompanied by Millfield staff at all times who provide help and guidance and ensure students are using spoken English.

Teachers incorporate excursion experiences into lessons, enabling students to take their education beyond the classroom.

Examples of Wednesday excursions (full day):
  • Theme Parks - Thorpe Park and Woodlands
  • City Tours - Oxford, Exeter, Bath and Bristol
  • Seaside Trips - Bournemouth and Lyme Regis
  • Castles and Museums - Cardiff Castle and Science Museum

All campuses provide a variety of great food choices for students to try with a combination of international dishes and great British classics. Each meal time there is a choice of different healthy food options, with a vegetarian dish always available. Special dietary requirements are also catered for. Students can eat as much as they like and are encouraged to try different foods to promote a healthy and balanced diet.
