Are you interested in becoming a British Guardianship host family?

Each child’s individual needs and character, personality and hobbies should be taken into account when finding them a Host Family so the parents feel secure that their child is safe and cared for. British Guardianship choose families that offer the best possible care that will enable the student to make the most of their life in the UK by visiting the families in their home and checking their professional and personal references. We will also run a background check on families by way of an enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check. The guardianship responsibility however, remains with British Guardianship during the time our students are staying with a host family.

There are some vital points which need to be mentioned by us to meet the terms of the Children Act 1989 & 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015. According to these guidelines, it’s clearly stated in order to apply to become a host family, none of your households have ever:

  • Been convicted of any offence against a child
  • Had a child removed from their care by order of a court
  • Had their parental rights removed
  • Had an order made against them refusing or cancelling Registration under the Nurseries and Child Minders Registration Act 1948

In many cases the majority of our international students do not live with our educational guardians or guardianship organisation host families during term time as they are boarding students. It is during school holidays, half terms and fixed Exeat weekends when our students will need alternative accommodation when the school is closed.

Host families are interviewed by British Guardianship and the accommodation they are offering is inspected to make sure they can provide the students with the best quality accommodation possible. Care is also taken to ensure that the family environment is safe and the domestic conditions are of a good standard with due regard to health & safety. Host families will also be required to complete basic safeguarding training in order to ensure they are aware of the risks our student might face.
